An SUV on the 2400 block of Bryant Avenue South lost its catalytic converter, the owner reported.

A catalytic converter was cut from an SUV parked on the 2400 block of Bryant Avenue South in the Wedge, the vehicle's owner reported to the 5th Precinct. No arrest has been announced, and police described the suspects only as having left in a small car.
Converter thefts rise and fall with the scrap price of the metals inside the part. Thieves can saw one off in under a minute, and the first sign for many owners is a loud rattle when they start the engine.
As always, Lowry Hill News gives the location only to the block and names no one who has not been convicted.
The 5th Precinct suggests parking in a garage where possible, having a muffler shop weld on a shield, and reporting the sound of sawing right away. Tips on the 2400 block of Bryant Avenue South can go to 311 or the precinct.
If you hear a saw at 3 a.m., that is not yard work — call it in while it is happening.
