A detached garage on the 2100 block of Girard Avenue South was entered after being left unlocked.

Most residential break-ins reported in the area involve an unlocked garage or a rear entry rather than a forced front door. An open or unlatched garage can be checked by a passerby in seconds.
We share the block only, and — consistent with our crime policy — name no resident and no one who has not been convicted.
Neighbors are reminded to close and lock the garage even for short trips and to leave an exterior light on overnight. Anyone with footage from the 2100 block of Girard Avenue South can reach the 5th Precinct or 311.
Most of these are crimes of opportunity — a closed, locked door ends a lot of them before they start.
