A U-lock was defeated in daylight on the 2200 block of West Lake of the Isles Parkway, the owner said.

A locked bicycle was cut from a rack on the 2200 block of West Lake of the Isles Parkway in East Isles in broad daylight, the owner told 311. The U-lock had been defeated, and no arrest has been announced.
A cable lock can be cut in seconds, and even a U-lock yields to the right tool given a few unobserved minutes. Bicycle theft is one of the most-reported property crimes near the lakes in the warmer months.
Lowry Hill News lists the block only and names no one who has not been convicted.
Cyclists are urged to use a hardened U-lock through the frame and rear wheel, to register serial numbers, and to photograph the bike. Reports for the 2200 block of West Lake of the Isles Parkway can go to 311 or the 5th Precinct.
Two locks and a recorded serial number are the difference between a recovered bike and a shrug.
