The owner of a car parked on the 2300 block of Bryant Avenue South in the Wedge heard sawing, went outside, and later found the catalytic converter gone, according to the report. No arrest has been announced.
The brief, high-pitched sound of a saw is often the only warning before a converter is taken. Owners who investigate quickly sometimes interrupt the theft — or at least get a description.

A welded shield, an etched serial number and a well-lit parking spot all help. If you hear sawing near the 2300 block of Bryant Avenue South, the 5th Precinct asks that you call it in while it is happening; reports also take through 311.
Hearing the saw and calling right then beats finding the empty pipe in the morning.
