Theft from parked cars remained the most common crime reported across Lowry Hill, the Wedge and East Isles this spring, even as officers told residents that broader property-crime numbers have eased.

In the roughly four weeks ending June 4, 2026, vehicle-related thefts dominated the local blotter: thefts of motor-vehicle parts on the 1100 block of Summit Avenue, the 800 block of Mount Curve Avenue and the 1800 block of Girard Avenue South; thefts from vehicles on the 2400 block of Hennepin Avenue, the 2700 block of Irving Avenue South and Groveland Terrace; and automobile thefts on Summit Avenue, the 700 block of Vineland Place near the Walker, and at Lake Street West and Humboldt Avenue South. Burglaries were reported on the 2700 block of Irving Avenue South, the 1800 block of Girard Avenue South, the 1900 block of Mount Curve Avenue and a business on the 2600 block of Hennepin Avenue. Violent incidents were fewer but present: a robbery on the 1900 block of Humboldt Avenue South on May 29, an assault with a dangerous weapon on the 600 block of Kenwood Parkway on May 7, and a significant-bodily-harm assault on the 1500 block of Lagoon Avenue on May 24.
The pattern matches what 5th Precinct crime-prevention specialists describe at community meetings: overall property crime has come down from its pandemic-era peak, in line with a citywide trend, but theft from motor vehicles has barely budged. The police department directs neighbors to its public Crime Dashboard and the OpenDataMPLS portal to check figures for their own blocks rather than rely on any single meeting's summary.
The 5th Precinct is headquartered at 3101 Nicollet Avenue South and covers a service area running roughly from Interstate 35W and Interstate 94 out to the city's southwest limits. Officers' standard advice tracks the data: take everything visible out of a parked car overnight, lock the garage even for a quick errand, keep a porch or alley light on, register serial numbers for bikes and laptops, and file a report through 311 or the precinct even for a small loss, because the maps used to direct patrols are built only from reports residents actually file. People who are charged are not guilty unless convicted.
