Algae grows at all lakes regardless of depth or shoreline conditions, expanding rapidly with sunshine and warmer water, though growth can occur even under lake ice.
Several days in March reached high temperatures of 70 degrees or more, potentially creating an early presence of some algae species, while blue-green algae can grow any time of year and produce toxins harmful to humans and animals.

Work to resurface Lake Harriet Parkway and improve the William Berry Parkway intersection will occur in phases starting in 2026.
