The East Isles Neighborhood Association rebates up to $250 per household for deadbolts, exterior lighting and alarm systems, using leftover city neighborhood-revitalization money.

The home-security rebate covers three things: deadbolt locks, exterior lighting for doorways and garages, and the purchase and installation of security alarm systems, though not monthly monitoring fees, according to the association's program page. Single-family households can be reimbursed up to $250 one time; buildings with four or more units can claim up to $1,000.
The money comes from the City of Minneapolis Neighborhood Revitalization Program, which lets each neighborhood organization spend a share of city funds on locally chosen priorities. East Isles is drawing on its remaining NRP balance for the rebates.
Residents apply by sending a completed application with itemized invoices and receipts to [email protected], or by mail to the East Isles Neighborhood Association, 2801 Hennepin Ave. S., #294, Minneapolis, MN 55408. Receipts must be dated within three months of the application, and rebates are paid first-come, first-served while funds last, so approval is not guaranteed. Approved applicants are mailed a check.
Full eligibility rules and the application form are posted at

Hennepin County is expected to bring its final design for rebuilding Lyndale Avenue South to the Minneapolis City Council this month, after a June 1 public meeting where Uptown business owners and cyclists clashed over a plan that adds a bikeway and cuts about a quarter of on-street parking.

The Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association board meets the first Tuesday of each month, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Searle Mansion, 1915 Logan Ave. S., where parks requests, traffic concerns and land-use notices get aired.

For the first time in years, the Hennepin Avenue corridor through Uptown heads into summer without an active construction zone, the rebuilt street now served by the METRO E Line that began carrying riders in December.
